Poll: a more hardline Israeli government could compromise ties with Egypt

52 percent of Egyptians believe that a more religiously hardline government in Israel could threaten the chances of normalizing ties with Egypt, while 48 percent said it would not, according to a poll studying views on religious extremism in Israel and the Arab World.

While 63 percent believe that religious extremism exists in Israel, 37 percent believe that it doesn't, according to the results of a phone survey carried out on 1 and 2 February by the Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera), covering 1024 respondents.

60 percent believe that a surge in religious fanaticism in Israel could boost Islamist extremism, while 40 percent do not see a connection between the two, according to the poll.

“The poll results indicate that 69% of Egyptians believe that the presence of a more hardline government in Israel would cause instability in the Middle East, while 31% said that it wouldn't”, Baseera added.
