Pope Tawadros receives Ethiopian delegation

Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria received an Ethiopian diplomatic delegation at the cathedral of St. Mark in Abbasiya on Wednesday.

The Ethiopian delegation attended the weekly sermon delivered by Tawadros at the cathedral.

"The spiritual bond between the Coptic and Ethiopian churches extends throughout the depth of history, especially since the Ethiopian Church was the daughter of the Coptic Orthodox Church until it became a sister and a member of the Orthodox family," said Tawadros. He stressed his strong relationship with the Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

"We hope that this visit will be a prelude to more visits between the two churches in the coming period," Tawadros added.

Members of the delegation expressed appreciation and respect on behalf of the Ethiopian people for Pope Tawadros, for being a great religious symbol.

Many Ethiopian students receive religious teachings in the Coptic Clerical and Theological College in Cairo, the delegation pointed out.

They praised the improvement of Ethiopian-Egyptian relations after President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi came to power.
