Presidency approves land allocation for mega prison

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi gave final approval on Wednesday for the allocation of 103.22 feddans (43.4610 square meters) of state-owned land for the construction of a new central prison.

The new facility on the Cairo-Assiut road will also include training camps and a traffic department for Giza security services.

Human rights organizations have urged the government to establish new prisons in order to resolve inhumane overcrowding of prisoners which stands between 160-200 percent.
