Qatar expels Muslim Brotherhood figures

Qatar requested from seven Muslim Brotherhood figures to leave the country within a week, according to sources from the group.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the sources said the figures include Mahmoud Hussein, Amr Darrag, Hamza Zoubaa, Wagdy Ghoneim, Gamal abdel Sattar, Essam Tallima and Ashraf Badr Eddin.

The sudden Qatari decision was surprising to the figures, according to the sources. More Brotherhood figures could soon be asked to leave the country.

A source close to the group said on Saturday that the figures will head to each of London, Turkey and Malaysia.

Doha responded to the decision on expelling Brotherhood figures, the source told Al-Masry Al-Youm, however, "it will continue to support the Brotherhood politically and in the media via its chanel Al-Jazeera."

The source blamed the decision on Saudi-Emirati pressure, adding that there have been talks between Qatar and the group for long time on the issue.

Darrag, who is member of the dissolved Freedom and Justice Party's executive bureau, said in a statement, "we appreciate Qatar's role in supporting the Egyptian people. We understand its stance and will respond to its request."
