Report: Egypt uses up to 120% of its water resources

Egypt uses up to 120 percent of its water resources for consumption, agriculture and industry, which increases the challenges it faces due to rising demand for water. The country is threatened with sever water shortages, as every citizen’s share is less than 650 cubic meters annually.

Meanwhile, Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazy said Egypt faces water shortages as a result of increased industrial and commercial growth as well as agricultural expansion.

He also noted that the High Dam and Nasser Lake play a great role in securing water supplies, in light of increasing the water deficit to over 20 billion cubic meters annually.
