Sabbahi submits nomination documents at elections commission

Presidential hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi submitted his nomination credentials Saturday morning at the Presidential Elections Commission preparing to contest in the polls slated for 26 and 27 May.

The Nasserist former runner, who ranked third in the 2012 race, is the most outstanding contender against former defense minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, whom observers believe is sure to win the elections, backed by a sweeping popularity for overthrowing the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsy from office last year.

According to nomination rules, every candidate is required to collect supporting signatures from 25,000 citizens across the republic.
