Sadat metro station to stay closed Wednesday, Thursday

Anwar al-Sadat metro station will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday for a third and fourth day, the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation said Tuesday.

The closure will continue for “security considerations,” said company spokesperson Ahmed Abdel Hadi. “Operations will continue normally at the rest of the stations on the three lines,” he said.

Sadat station leads to Cairo’s Tahrir Square, a popular demonstration hotspot since the uprising that ousted Hosni Mubarak in 2011. Authorities closed the station on Monday as a precaution against possible protests on the uprising’s fifth anniversary.

Sadat station was reopened in June 2015 after a two-year closure over security concerns.
