Security say apprehended three Brotherhood-linked cells over sabotage plots

Security services on Tuesday arrested three cells allegedly affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Authorities in Qalyubia say they arrested members of a Muslim Brotherhood cell accused of sabotage and planning to blast electricity transformers. Investigators say that the suspect Fadl al-Saeed met with others to plan the explosive attacks. Police say he was arrested in possession of chemical substances, ammunition, mobile phones, arms and anti-government flyers.

The suspect admitted to forming the cell, affiliated to the Brotherhood to carry out terrorist actions.

Meanwhile in Alexandria, police also say members of another Brotherhood cell were apprehended.

Investigators say that the cell was planning to revive the group’s military wing and form another group to carry out terrorist actions against police, armed forces and supporters of 30 June revolution.

Authorities say suspects were in possession of guns, bombs, molotovs and fireworks and admitted to carrying out several terrorist actions along with another fugitive.

In Damietta, security services arrested another alleged terrorist cell accused of sabotage and damaging public property.

Investigators there say the suspects who formed the cell had previously been involved in several crimes.

Police say the suspects were in possession of a tin filled with petroleum substances and a bomb, and confessed to having set a police vehicle on fire in New Damietta city.

Two other suspects in the cell escaped authorities.
