Shokry: No amendments on Egypt’s Gaza ceasefire initiative

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shokry said the Egyptian stance regarding the ceasefire initiative in Gaza is strict, saying that amendments were made to the initiative.

In brief press remarks made following talks on Tuesday with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Shokry said that "any talks over amending the Egyptian initiative to stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza are untrue."

Talks between Shokry and Kerry at Egypt's foreign ministry lasted for almost 90 minutes.

A foreign ministry source said the talks tackled the deteriorating situation in Gaza. They also discussed the Egyptian initiative and methods of achieving it to stop the aggression.

Kerry then headed to the Arab League to meet its chief Nabil al-Araby. He will later meet with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
