Sisi orders state of emergency in North Sinai for three months

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued presidential decree on Friday declaring state of emergency in parts of North Sinai for three months, upon National Defence Council's recommendations.

During a meeting on Friday, Sisi met with Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb, ministers of defense, interior affairs, foreign affairs and finance, armed forces chief of staff, chief of intelligence, chief of military intelligence and others attended the meeting.

The council offered condolences over the victims who were killed in attacks against security ambush in in Sheikh Zuwaid city, North Sinai, on Friday leaving 27 victims and 25 injured from armed forces personnel.

The decision stipulates declaring the state of emergency from Rafah hill to al-Awga in the east, from west of al-Arish to al-Halal mountain in the west, from west of Arish to the Rafah international borders in the North and Halal mountain to Awga in the South for three months starting 25 October at 5 AM

A night curfew was imposed at the said areas from 5 PM to 7 AM

Each of police and armed forces, according to the decision, should take necessary measures to confront terrorism, preserve security and lives. Whoever violates presidential orders should be sentenced to prison.

Sisi also instructed cabinet to take swift measures to secure civilians in the said areas.
