Sources: Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Kuwait to join military alliance

Informed diplomatic and political sources have said that the formation of a joint Arab military unit is already underway and steps are being taken to have it up and running as soon as possible.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been pushing for this alliance in light of the substantial and continuous threats to the Arab region, they added.

Sisi, according to the sources, held talks on forming the military unit with several regional parties following the beheadings of 21 Egyptians in Libya earlier this year. Several countries are expected to join the alliance, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, The United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. Every country will have a specific role to play and each of them will be clearly delineated. The headquarters for the troop administration will likely be in Cairo. The unit will mainly consist of rapid deployment forces, special forces and airborne forces.
