Student Union of Ain Shams University resigns in protest of student’s killing

The Student Union of Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Engineering issued a statement entitled “A Colleague of Ours in the Morgue” condemning the killing of Islam Attito, a student in his fourth year.

The union resigned in protest and demanded an immediate investigation to hold accountable anyone involved in the incident.

The statement said unidentified individuals came on Tuesday morning while Attito was sitting in hall 260-A for the exams of the Electric Power Department and told him to go to the Student Affairs Office after he finished. Then they waited for him at the door and took him to an unknown location. The next day, he was found dead in the desert.

“We cannot go on as our colleague was taken out of campus to the morgue,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Ain Shams University Vice President Ali Abdel Aziz told the CBC satellite channel on Thursday evening that security forces did not enter campus or arrest any of the students, adding that the student had finished all his exams according to the attendance sheet.
