Study on Brotherhood to be released at best time: British ambassador

A report in the works by British authorities over the nature of the Muslim Brotherhood and the legality of its activities will be announced during the best time for British interests, the UK ambassador to Cairo has said.

The British study on the Brotherhood ideology is part of a broader effort to combat extremism on its soil, John Casson told satellite TV channel TEN in an interview late Monday. He added that British authorities would apprehend any terrorist, regardless of his affiliation.

The British government had tasked former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, John Jenkins, to prepare a report on the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood and how its mindset can contribute to extremist thought, especially considering many of its leaders having migrated to the UK.

News reports claiming awareness of the draft report, as well as observers, have given mixed predictions as to whether results of the anticipated document would prompt the UK to ban, or restrict, the Brotherhood’s activities.
