Suspects storming Port Said prison arrested

Security sources have said that police arrested 15 people suspected of attempting to storm into a Port Said prison, after the suspects were identified from video footage.

The sources added that the Cabinet agreed to provide police forces with the required equipment as soon as possible so as to protect police personnel and enable them to fight outlaws, and that the prime minister instructed the police to document all evidence.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday that elements amid the peaceful demonstrations in Cairo attempted to break into government installations, disrupt the subway, block the 6 October and Qasr al-Nil bridges, and threaten embassies in the Garden City district.

The statement emphasized the right to peaceful demonstration, and appealed to all political and revolutionary forces to find effective solutions to the current crisis.

A security source said the police arrested 178 rioters in the Qasr al-Nil Bridge and 6 October Bridge vicinity, on Qasr al-Nil Street, in Garden City and in Abdeen, and referred them to the prosecution for investigation.

The source added that prosecutors detained 23 of these for 15 days pending investigation, 68 for four days pending investigation, and released another 10 without bail. They also delivered two minors to their parents.

Detainees face charges of exploiting peaceful demonstrations to storm government and tourist installations, disrupt the subway, block bridges and threaten diplomatic missions.
