Traffic returned to normal at Tahrir Square Saturday morning, after Friday’s mass demonstrations saw nearly 50 different political parties and activist groups attend.
Security forces and traffic police both had heavy presences at the square’s entrances after being absent Friday due to the demonstrations. Security forces also forced street vendors out of the square and surrounding streets.
Cairo governorate cleaning staff also cleaned up the square of garbage and banners and leaflets left over from the protests.
A state of calm prevailed on Qasr al-Aini Street, as the security forces stationed in the vicinity of the Council of Ministers removed barriers from in front of the Shura Council and opened the way for vehicles to pass.
Calm prevailed around the Cabinet building, while a small number of teachers continued their sit-in to demand higher salaries and incentives, as well as some of the revolution’s injured who demanded their right to treatment, work and retirement pensions.
