Three policemen arrested for attacking armed forces officer

The Agouza prosecution ordered the detention on Saturday of three policemen from the Giza traffic department for attacking an armed forces officer and verbally insulting another policeman at a security ambush located near the Ard el-Lewa bridge.

A fight broke out when the suspects attempted to record a traffic violation that had been allegedly committed by the military officer. The latter sustained a head injury and is being treated at the Maadi military hospital.

Investigations showed that the officer was stopped by traffic police who asked for his license to ensure it was valid. The officer, however, found out the policeman was recording a traffic violation. The officer had been parked on the side of the road making a phone call, but the policeman insisted on recording the violation, claiming that he was talking on the phone while driving. Two other policemen soon got involved in the argument.

According to investigations, the officer was being attacked by the policemen when a fourth policeman intervened, trying to explain that his documents were valid. The other three policemen responded by insulting their colleague.

The suspects have maintained during interrogations that they did not beat the armed forces officer, but that the man was injured as a result of hitting a crane.

Prosecution will summon the victims to hear their testimonies. Investigations later revealed that the armed forces officer also attacked the three policemen.
