Trial of 12 sexual harassers involved in five lawsuits postponed to 29 June

South Cairo Criminal Court started on Wednesday the first session of the trial of 12 defendants accused of sexually assaulting women in Tahrir Square. The trial was later postponed to 29 June.

The incidents took place during celebrations of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's inauguration and on the third anniversary of the 25 January revolution.

Public Prosecutor Hesham Barakat on 14 June referred the suspects to court after interrogations showed their involvement in abducting victims, sexual assault, physical torture and premeditated murder.

In case of conviction, the defendants may receive a life sentence.
