Two sentenced to life in Tahrir sexual assault case

South Cairo Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced two young men to life, and a third to 20 years in jail, over charges of sexually assaulting women at Tahrir Square.

The incidents, which drew local and international outrage, took place during celebrations of the inauguration of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in June.

All three defendants were found guilty of sexually assaulting the victims, exercising violence against them and endangering their lives.

The defendants encircled the ladies, confined their movement and physically tortured them, according to the court.

In July, nine others were sentenced to multiple terms of life and 20 years in similar incidents.
