Upper Egypt-bound train traffic resumes

Train traffic resumed on Saturday between Cairo and Upper Egypt for the first time since 14 August, which was suspended following dispersal of the Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda squares.

Train  no.978 headed from Cairo heading to Assiut. The rest of trains will move according to operation schedule.

Hussein Zakariya, head of the railways authority, announced last week security services approval to operate 14 trains on Saturday between Cairo and Upper Egypt.

Zakariya added that trains will move on Saturday from Cairo, while trains heading from Aswan to Cairo will resume on Sunday.

Security services had earlier requested suspending train traffic in August. In October, resumption of Delta train traffic was approved.
