Video showing attacks against Egyptian journalists in New York goes viral

Social media users have circulated a video showing attacks by supporters of toppled President Mohamed Morsy and the Muslim Brotherhood against several Egyptian media professionals who headed to New York to cover the UN Climate Summit, during which President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi gave a speech on behalf of Arab nations within the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The video showed Morsy supporters insulting Yasser Rizq, chief editor of the state-owned Akhbar al-Youm newspaper and Emad Eddin Hussein, chief editor of the privately-owned Shorouk newspaper.

The privately-owned ONTV host Youssef al-Husseiny, known for his sharp criticism against Morsy and the Brotherhood, was attacked and insulted at Kennedy International Airport by a person holding the Rabaa al-Adaweya sign.

New York police arrested on Sunday nine persons affiliated to the Brotherhood while holding Rabaa signs after insulting the Egyptian media delegation.

Alaa Heidar, chief editor of the state-run MENA news agency, said the group members attempted to attack the Egyptian delegation and made death threats, which prompted an Egyptian pharmacist based in New York to call police to arrest the nine perpetrators.

Both supporters and opponents of President Sisi disclosed their intentions earlier to protest before his arrival.
