Wikileaks: Qatar seeks to replace Egypt’s leading role

A document attributed to Saudi General Intelligence and published by the WikiLeaks website on Saturday evening said Qatar is looking forward to taking advantage of Egypt's decline as a leader in the region following the January 25 revolution in 2011.

The document, titled "Secret Cable" and dated 27/02/1433, included information available to Saudi intelligence on Qatar's role in Somalia.

Qatar's presence is increasing regionally and in the Arab world, dramatically, due to the distinctive spirit of initiative and courage within Qatari diplomacy, as well as the media because of Al-Jazeera's growing influence, the document read.

Qatar is looking for a leading role and is taking advantage of Egypt's receding role because of the crisis that prevailed after the January 25 revolution, according to the document.

WikiLeaks published more than 60,000 leaked diplomatic documents from Saudi Arabia on June 19, 2015, adding it would publish half a million other documents in the coming weeks.

"Dear aware citizen: Avoid access to any website in order to obtain documents or leaked information that may be incorrect, aiming to harm the security of the homeland," the Saudi Foreign Ministry responded in a statement.
