Who gave the starting signal for the bomb war?

Bomb explosions have escalated in the last few hours in places crowded with citizens, causing injuries more than from all previous bombings. Obviously, these acts have a certain specific goal.

It is widely believed that these attempts aim to thwart the March economic conference and deliver a message to the outside world that Egypt is not safe for investment. But the fact that they have coincided with the replacement of the interior minister suggests that they may aim to embarrass the new minister and blame him for the security failure, although he was appointed only a few days before.

Also, recent regional incidents cannot be overlooked, for there is a trend to establish a new Sunni front headed by Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey to counter Iran stretching in the region and stop the Islamic State from crawling into it. Perhaps those bombings were an attempt to preoccupy Egypt with internal battles.

It is easy to accuse the Brotherhood of being behind all that. Yet this group is being constantly chased and besieged by the security services to an extent that makes us doubt it is able to carry out such well planned acts. Maybe there are others who are more professional and know exactly what they are doing.

Claims that the regime is behind those acts are no longer acceptable, for it is the regime that suffers most when it is unable to protect the people from terrorism.

We are facing indiscriminate terrorism that sheds the blood of everyone, for choosing crowded areas like Quwatli Street in Mahalla and Carrefour in Alexandria to place bombs means a war as been declared against all Egyptians regardless of their position vis-a-vis the regime.

This requires a different approach. We need to remove internal tension and dry sources of terrorism by stopping collective punishment policies and achieving justice, whose absence gives justification for many to take revenge against everyone.

We should not neglect regional and perhaps even Zionist attempts to thwart the new Sunni alliance. This has nothing to do with a conspiracy theory by the way.

And the media should be more accurate so that the real criminals do not get away with their crimes.

May God unite all Egyptians and curse all killers.
