Widow of Martyr Emad Effat writes a message to his killers

To the killers of Sheikh Emad: You will perish.

I wanted to write about certain things in Sheikh Emad’s life for our youngest son Ibrahim to know, for he has just turned one year old. But I decided to write to you, killers of Emad, seeking retribution for him and for the nation.

Emad was a man of God. He lived to learn and teach so that he could share in the shaping of his country. He believed in the causes of his nation. He dreamt of change and took part in achieving it.

But alas, he died. Yet he died as a martyr to have an immortal life in heaven. And so, father of Mohamed, Khadiga Somaya and Ibrahim, know that you have won.

You killers may have asked Emad one day for a fatwa or for him to pray for you, then did not shy aiming a bullet at his heart and the hearts of the other martyrs just to follow the commands of your leaders. For you do not know that no man should be obeyed if he does not obey God.

With your blind obedience, you orphan children and widow women, then you and those who incite you to do so all go home to sit safely with your families.

Beware, killers of Emad, for you and your accomplices who foment murder and chaos will face your punishment sooner than you think. The hand that pulled and pressed the trigger to a heart that loved God and the nation will not get away with this heinous crime.

You can terrorize, steal and kill for money or power, but for how long do you think you will escape from God’s wrath?

I know you are reading this message, for killers are curious to know what follows their crimes. They kill, though they themselves are afraid of death, and they torture, thought they themselves are afraid of pain.

God give them no moment of sleep. Let them toss in their beds. Scatter their thoughts. Burn their throats. Stress their hearts. Mutilate them. Cripple them. Blind them. Let their souls grieve. Poison their blood. Make them wish to die and prolong their lives with agony. Avenge me and all others who love this country.

Emad, whom you killed, was a pious man. He was honest and sincere. He was trustworthy. He lived to do good. What do you killers live for?

Emad was among the martyrs who died in the field of the revolution, those that you falsely called barbarians and traitors. They were righteous and they defended their country, whereas it was the ilk of you who burned the buildings and spread the chaos.

Emad could not sleep or rest because the revolution was on his mind. He wanted to cleanse the country of corruption and tyranny. He wanted the people to be able to choose their ruler. He wanted fair trials for the corrupt. He wanted a clean judiciary. He believed all this would not happen unless the revolution was complete.

You fools, Egypt will survive and you killers will perish.
