Heatwave hits Egypt until Thursday

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) issued an urgent statement warning that the country will be exposed to very hot weather from Tuesday until Thursday.

Weather maps revealed that the peak temperature will be Wednesday, where the maximum temperature in Cairo will reach 40C.

The maximum temperature in Cairo on Tuesday is expected to reach 38C.

The EMA attributed the cause of the heat wave due to a very hot southern air mass with the presence of a high-pressure area in the upper layers of the atmosphere, raising the temperatures, with very hot weather prevailing over most parts of the countries, and hot on the northeastern coasts.

Weather maps showcase wind activity north of the country, stirring up sand and dust west of the country and impacting horizontal visibility.

The EMA warned citizens not to be directly be exposed to the sun’s rays, drink sufficient amounts of water and cold liquids, wear a head covering to protect from the sun, wear loose, light-colored cotton clothes, turn on the air conditioning or fans, and do not sit in poorly-ventilated places.

Tuesday’s weather:

The weather on Tuesday will be very hot during the day on Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northwestern coasts, South Sinai, and the southern parts of the country, hot on the northeastern coasts.

Moderate weather prevails at night throughout Egypt.

Wind activity is expected in areas of Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, and the northern coasts, blowing up sand and dust, leading to deterioration of horizontal visibility in the western regions of the country.

  • Hurghada: 36C
  • Sharm el-Sheikh: 37C
  • Alexandria: 37C
  • Cairo: 38C
