1,144 megawatts added to grid to face August heat

The Ministry of Electricity said it will be adding an additional 1,144 megawatts to the national grid, in order to face the rising temperatures in the month of August, which has the highest electricity consumption rates. At the same time, the ministry called on citizens to rationalize consumption as much as possible.
 
Ministry spokesperson Mohamed al-Yamani said the ministry is implementing an urgent plan to operate a station with a capacity of 160 megawatts in Mahmoudiya, six stations of 48 megawatts each in Sharm el-Sheikh, six with 125 megawatts each in Assiut, four with 125 megawatts each in Damietta, two with 48 megawatts each in Hurghada, 20 with 25 megawatts each in Cairo, Heliopolis, Bassatin, Samalout, Mallway and Gerga, and four with 160 megawatts each in Ataka.
 
The ministry said in a statement that it did not reduce the loads during the Eid vacation, adding that the maximum load expected on Tuesday is 26,900 megawatts.
