212 defendants handed 10-year prison sentences over revolution anniversary violence

Cairo Criminal Court sentenced on Sunday 212 defendants to 10 years in prison over committing violent acts in 2014, on the third anniversary of the January 25 revolution of 2011, MENA reported.

MENA reported as well the sentencing of 15 other defendants to one year of rigorous imprisonment in the same case.

All of the defendants were cleared of premeditated and attempted murder charges.

The defendants were referred to a criminal trial in April 2014 over charges of committing violent acts that involved the killing of a person and the injury of dozens. They were also accused of illegal assembly; threatening the public peace; showing off force; damaging public and private property; possessing firearms; murder; and attempted murder.
