Agencies: Dozens killed at Tunisia prison

Dozens of prisoners were killed when a fire broke out at a prison in al-Menesteir town in Tunisia. Dozens of others fled, three eyewitnesses told Reuters.

The prison is located 140 km away from Tunis and approximately 1200 prisoners were being held there.

Shokri Shushan, an eyewitness, said the prison is currently on fire and dozens of dead bodies can be seen. "The entire prison is on fire–the furniture and everything."

Another two witnesses provided similar accounts.

Physicians told the DPA that the number of people killed in the fire exceeds 40, while al-Arabiya news channel reported the number to be 60. The causes of the fire have yet to be known.
