Alexandria textile company employees strike over delayed salaries

Employees at the Vestia textile company in Alexandria declared an open-ended strike on Sunday, protesting the company’s failure to disburse their salaries, as well as their shares in revenues that have been due since 2013.

Vestia was one of four private companies that enlisted in a restructuring scheme adopted by the Cotton and Textile Industries Holding Company.

Protests by the company’s workers coincide with strikes at other major textile companies over the government’s decision to withhold a 10 percent annual bonus previously decreed by the presidency.
