Army seeks expansion of its marble production

Egypt’s military is considering openning schools to teach marble-based handcrafts as well as to expand its factories' production of the same material, Al-Masry Al-Youm has learned.

Official sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the Armed Forces National Service Authority will also seek Italian expertise for the operation of its marble plant in Badr City (46 km east of Cairo) in a bid to start exporting high quality products.

The sources added that the plans for the Badr plant are part of a broader scheme to expand the service’s resources of building materials needed for projects undertaken by the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, especially housing projects.

“The expansion of the National Service Authority’s works in building materials will not affect the local market which already enjoys excess supply,” the officials said, adding that the plan will help control building material prices and secure a supply for civilian use when needed.
