Cairo Governor: A member of the “Downtown Mafia” helped remove the street vendors

Cairo Governor Galal al-Saeed said a member of the “Downtown Mafia” helped him evacuate the street vendors from the city center.

“There is a Mafia of 10 or 15 people, which controls the street vendors of Downtown,” Saeed told the Capital satellite TV channel. “They take money from them in exchange for allowing them to display their goods in the streets.”

“With just one look from him [the Mafia member], they all went away immediately,” he said.
