Chef recommends healthy drinks to counter fesikh effect

Chef Amira Shanab, on CBC Sofra channel, recommended a number of drinks after eating fesikh and herring during Sham el-Nessim to reduce the severity of the effect of the salt-heavy meals on one’s health.

Shanab recommended green tea, lemon mint juice, orange juice, mint tea, and soft drinks.

Fesikh is also known for its bad smell. Al-Masry Al-Youm published advice to people on methods for getting rid of the bad smell of salted fish.

The website advised placing lemon slices in a pot of hot water and leaving it until it evaporates, freshening the air in the house and absorbing the bad smell.

Lemon slices can be replaced with cinnamon sticks and left on fire until boiling, spreading a good smell.
