Counter-influenza panel to convene in emergency meeting over Corona disease Monday

The Health Ministry's counter-influenza panel will hold an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon at the Health Ministry, headed by Health Minister Adel al-Adawy and preventive medicine and chest disease senior university professors to dicuss means of confronting the Corona disease.

The first case of infection was an Egyptian engineer who returned from Riyadh to Egypt. Former Health Minister and panel member Awad Tag Eddin said doctors would discuss during the Monday meeting ways to prevent the spread of the virus in addition to examining passengers who are coming from countries where the virus has spread, especially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"The committee would also discuss imposing a quarantine on all land and air ports and taking samples from suspects immediately for analysis at central labs," he added.

Tag Eddin said the Corona virus has no vaccination and the only way to deal with it is to follow preventive measures.

The Corona virus has the same symptoms of the normal flu such as a high temperature and the inflammation of the sinuses, but it soon develops into severe pneumonia that requires intensive care access and putting the infected on a respirator.

Tag Eddin, who heads the Egyptian Society of Chest Diseases, called on citizens to follow preventive measures to avoid catching the virus by wearing masks in crowded areas and avoiding communication with patients who catch the disease.

He also called on pilgrims heading to the KSA to take routine vaccinations before traveling and to wear masks in crowded places.
