Court adjourns assets seizure case of former security official, governor

The Cairo Criminal Court on Thursday decided to adjourn the assets sequestration case of Osama al-Marasi, the former Giza security director, and Ahmed Diaa Eddin, the former governor of Minya, to early April so as to enable their defense team to examine the sequestration request submitted by the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA).

The IGA had banned the defendants and their families from managing their property or liquid assets, on charges of accumulating fortunes not commensurate with their legitimate sources of income.

Since the outbreak of the January uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak, the assets of several officials have been frozen for the same reason.
