Death sentence of 31 suspects accused in the assassination of public prosecutor referred to Mufti

Cairo Criminal Court has ordered referring documents of 31 suspects involved in assassination of former public prosecutor to mufti to decide on their death sentence. Verdict to be issued on July 22.

Prosecution levelled charges against the suspects of leading and joining illegal groups, carrying out hostile actions against judges, police personnel and diplomatic missions, supporting the groups financially through funds, weapons and explosives and spying for Hamas movement to carry out terrorist actions in Egypt.

They were accused of killing former prosecutor Hisham Barakat to take revenge, as the latter previously ordered the forcible dispersal of Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda sit-ins.

Moreover, they were accused of attempted murder of eight personnel of his guards and damaging public and private properties, possessing weapons and unlicensed ammunition.
