Hospitals on high alert as a result of current heatwave

Health Minister Ahmed Emad Eddin has put all hospitals on high alert as a result of the current heatwave in Egypt.

A plan, according to the minister, was drawn to coordinate with hospitals, the central department for urgent and critical care and ambulance department to receive any cases affected by the high temperatures.

All hospitals were instructed to report cases they receive and raise awareness among citizens about the measures that should be taken when affected by the heat, Health Ministry Spokesperson Khaled Megahed said.

He also indicated that dire effects usually occur due to major loss of fluids when exposed to high temperatures for long period of time. Symptoms include headache, imbalance, nausea, excessive sweating, low body temperature, muscle aches, increased pulse, thirst and low blood pressure.

The ministry has urged citizens to take precautionary measures and reduce exposure to the sun.
