Hotels in Red Sea tighten security ahead of Christmas celebrations

Hotels and resorts in the Red Sea have completed their preparations for the Christmas and New Year festivities with decorations and Christmas trees.

Hotel managers in the Red Sea said that bookings of hotels and tourist villages in Marsa Alam and Hurghada during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve holidays reached about 90 percent and there are hotels with no vacant rooms in El Gouna and Sahl Hasheesh. Several concerts will be organized in these areas during Christmas.

Tourism Authority officials in the Red Sea estimated that the number of tourists coming to the Red Sea governorate during the coming period will reach about 100,000 from Germany, Ukraine, England, Poland, Scandinavia and several other European countries.

They said that occupancy rates in the area of Marsa Alam range between 70 percent and 90 percent coinciding with the New Year celebrations.

Security agencies have tightened security procedures at hotels and resorts, where surveillance cameras have been installed. Also, security was tightened around the airport, with check points deployed at the main entrance.

Metal detectors were also installed and cars and individuals are being searched before being allowed into the airport.

Security services also tightened security procedures in various cities of the governorate and raised the degree of readiness among all their forces and deployed security personnel in Hurghada in preparation for the celebrations of Christmas and New Years.
