Nasr City police killer arrested, Hasm vows more attacks in video

The Interior Ministry released a statement on Tuesday evening supported by video footage of one of the perpetrators of the recent militant attack against a police patrol in Nasr City.

At the beginning of May, a number of militants opened fire on two police vehicles, killing two police officers and one non-commissioned officer.

The little-known militant movement Hasm claimed responsibility for the attack and vowed to carry out similar attacks. The Interior Ministry believes that this group is managed and financed by the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

According to the Interior Ministry’s statement, Hasm’s hierarchy has been unveiled by the police’s investigative work. Police forces also arrested one of the perpetrators of the Nasr City attack.

“Nine Brotherhood members were involved in the planning and execution of the Nasr City attack,” the Interior Ministry statement read. “The militants received orders from two fugitive Brotherhood members who are in Turkey. Police found the stationing points of four of perpetrators and arrested one of them.”

The militants used three vehicles, guns, pistols and cameras to carry out the attack. They had also received training in a country that harbors terrorists, the statement added.

The Interior Ministry supplied video footage of a young man, Mostafa Salem, explaining how the attack was carried out and giving information about the perpetrators. He added that his father was a leading Brotherhood figure during deposed president Mohamed Morsi’s era.

The footage then showed some people being tortured, allegedly by police officers in an unknown police station, to justify the Nasr City attack. Next the video showed the attack itself, starting with militants in a vehicle which suddenly stopped in front of two police vehicles. The militants opened fire at the officers.

At the end of the video, Hasm claimed that the suspects arrested by the Interior Ministry were not the actual perpetrators of the attack and have no connection to the movement. Hasm claims the militants responsible are still active and will continue targeting police officers.
