Italy lifts travel ban to Egypt’s north coast resorts

Matrouh's director of the Department of Tourism and Resorts, Alaa Abdel Shakour, said Thursday that Italy has lifted its travel ban to the city of Marsa Matrouh and the northwest coast.

In November, Italy had lifted its travel ban to the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm el Sheikh, South Sinai, Luxor and Aswan.

Abdel Shakour said that the airports of Marsa Matrouh and Al-Alamein are getting ready to receive European tourists beginning in mid-March after the cold months are over.

Last summer, the Italian government had issued a warning to its citizens on travel to Egypt and evacuated Italians present in the country following the violent dispersal of the Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda sit-ins.
