Jama’a al-Islamiya’s Tamarod receives threats: coordinator

The Jamaa al-Islamiya Tamarod campaign coordinator Walid al-Bersh said the campaign has been subject to daily threats by group leaders.

He told Al-Masry Al-Youm Tuesday that he received a direct threat from group leaders saying: “Be responsible for what you say, the group will not allow any internal splits and the group leaders will remain as they are until they meet God.”

He said the group leaders have conducted a smear campaign in media against them, saying they are agents for the security authorities.

Bersh stressed the campaign insists to achieve its objectives. The objectives could be summed up as adopting an initiative to cease violence and uphold reconciliation, he added.

Awad Ibrahim, head of the Jamaa al-Islamiya’s Tamarod’s Shura Council in Damietta said the campaign has also received indirect threats through intermediaries.
