A fire broke out early Monday in the downtown commercial market area of Manzala in Daqahliya, leaving 25 injured, according to Health Ministry officials.

Magdy Hegazy, undersecretary of the Health Ministry in Daqahliya, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that at least 25 people were injured in the fire.

Manzala Hospital, according to Hegazy, received five cases of burns and 20 cases of suffocation. All injuries left the hospital after receiving treatment except for four cases still being treated.

Fourteen fire trucks rushed to the Ansari Square area, where the fire broke out, and were able to extinguish the blaze.

The initial report indicated that the fire caused the destruction of 72 stores, with initial losses estimated at LE10 million.

The reason behind the fire, according to the report, was an electric failure in one of the market stalls.
