New Valley construction authority chief arrested over bribery

The Administrative Control Authority in New Valley governorate announced on Tuesday the arrest of the head of the governorate's construction authority on corruption charges.

Abdel Badie Ahmed Suleiman was arrested while allegedly taking a bribe of LE320,000 from a contractor running several projects being supervised by the construction authority. Suleiman has been in office since 2013.

Major General Mohamed Ashmawy, the governor of New Valley, said the fight against corruption is his top priority.

Suleiman was still in the governorate's capital of Kharga city on Wednesday but he has since been moved to Cairo, sources from the authority told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The contruction authority supervises construction and infrastructure projects for the governorate. These include the Al-Farafra-Dayrout Road, the Taneida-Manfalout Road, social housing units, and houses in villages at Dakhla Oasis and Paris Oases.

The ِAdministrative Control Authority has launched several campaigns to tackle corruption across the country, seeking to identify and arrest those responsibe.
