Border troops in Port Said have seized a lorry carrying around 6 tons of marijuana, known as ‘bango’ in Egyptian slang.

Officials said the lorry driver was taking advantage of a security vacuum to smuggle the drugs, and that security measures are being taken.

Troops of the western military area revealed that they had located a secret store with weapons near to Salloum.

Meanwhile in the south of the country, a number of Sudanese nationals were arrested in the possession of 18 metal detectors and machine guns looking for gold.

Border troops have tightened security measures at border crossings, as well as the Suez Canal. There are 12 patrols on duty during curfew time.

President Mohamed Morsy announced a state of emergency in Port Said, Suez and Ismailia Sunday for 30 days, along with the imposition of a curfew from 9 pm to 6 am as violence and clashes escalated.
