Brawl outside Brotherhood headquarters ends

Calm returned to the area outside the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood in Moqattam on Sunday, a day after clashes broke out between anti-Brotherhood protesters and members of the group, local news reports said.

Clashes broke out late on Saturday when Brotherhood members attacked protesters spraying graffiti against the group near the Moqattam headquarters. Witnesses said they attacked the protesters with sticks and iron chains.

Security forces attempted to disperse the protesters using tear gas and other reinforcements arrived to protect the headquarters.

Security withdrew on Sunday to the Moqattam police station and stopped the use of tear gas, after demonstrators left the area outside the station.

Three Central Security personnel carriers and one armored vehicle have been stationed outside the police department respond to other unrest.
