Cabinet submits demonstration draft for interim president to endorse

The Cabinet submitted a draft law regulating demonstrations and public meetings to interim President Adly Mansour on Wednesday for endorsement.

A Cabinet official said the draft takes into consideration remarks made by the National Council for Human Rights.

Deputy Prime Minister Ziad Bahaa Eddin objected to the draft in the discussion session, while Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim supported it. It was approved in the end by a vast majority.

Anonymous sources said Bahaa Eddin asked to present the draft to human rights organizations first, but Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy reassured him that he personally had their approval.

In a heated discussion over the draft, Ibrahim told Bahaa Eddin: “We are the ones fighting on the front and you don’t want to help us.”

“Remember this day because it may change how the government and the transitional phase as a whole are perceived,” Ibrahim added.
