Doctors protest lack of training

Several young doctors protested outside the Doctors' Syndicate in Cairo on Saturday to decry what they called a lack of training and to demand more privileges during their residency period.

The syndicate noted that the demonstration came after the Health Ministry failed to honor its earlier pledges to ensure training for all resident doctors who spend their two-year, post-graduation obligatory service in remote areas.

The protest was attended by Mona Mina, the syndicate’s general secretary, as well as other board members.

“Real training opportunities for all doctors”, read some of the banners at the demonstrations.

Egyptian doctors have staged several protests and strikes over multiple issues ranging from low salaries to poor working conditions since the 2011 uprising.
