Official: Parliamentary elections to be held in October

The Parliamentary elections will be held in October, after the adoption of the election legislation, which is currently being reviewed in the State Council, a Cabinet source said.

The Cabinet had earlier sent the draft laws to the State Council, including the political rights law, and the law of constituencies.

The State Council has revised the House of Representatives law, but it is still reviewing the law of electoral constituencies. It will send its amendments to the committee chaired by the Minister of Justice to finalize the legislation.

According to the souce, the laws will not be finalized before June. They will be then submitted to the president for approval and published in the official gazette.

The High Elections Commission, which will be responsible for the whole electoral process, will set the dates for the election after the laws are approved, which will likely be in October, the official confirmed.
