Power supply 3,000 megawatts short

Power cuts have increased in Cairo and other governorates due to a shortage of 3000 megawatts in electricity generation capacity.

The ministers of electricity and environment are launching a national campaign to ration consumption as of May.

Peak hours of consumption have been extended on Sunday for six hours from 6pm to midnight.

A source at the Ministry of Electricity said the Cabinet agreed to import coal to fuel power plants.

The minister said consumption should be rationed by 20 percent and that the national campaign would aim to push people to reduce power usage by that amount.
