Presidential source: Morsy to call for new national dialogue

President Mohamed Morsy will soon call for national dialogue with all political groups to discuss developments in the country and recently postponed parliamentary elections, a source from the president’s office told Turkish news agency Anadolu.

The source did not mention a specific date for the dialogue.

The president met with his advisers Saturday and discussed the implications of the Port Said Stadium case verdict and unrest in several governorates, the source said.

Unrest has continued in the canal city since January, when a court sentenced 21 people, mostly Port Said residents, to death over the killing of football fans at a city stadium last year. More than 40 people have died in post-verdict violence. The court upheld the verdict Saturday, while acquitting other defendants and sentencing others to prisons.

The president had previously launched a national dialogue attended mostly by Islamists. The largest opposition coalition, the National Salvation Front, boycotted the dialogue, calling for a Cabinet reshuffle as a condition for its attendance.
