Egyptian Railways Authority officials have confessed to helping a Mahalla contractor illegaly seize a plot of land worth LE15 million, the public funds prosecutor said on Thursday.
The director of one of the authority’s departments and the head of the authority’s property department in the central Delta region helped the contractor by producing false documents giving him control of the 1,276 square meter piece of land, investigators say.
After confessing to the crime, one of the officials was released on LE5,000 bail, while the other remains in detention.
The case was brought to light when an engineer at the Mahalla City Council filed a report against the two officials.
