Textiles’ Syndicate requests govt re-operate suspended companies

Textiles' Syndicate President Abdel Fattah Ibrahim has requested that the government save the industry and find urgent solutions for companies that have been forced to stop their operations due to a shortage in raw materials.

Ibrahim said the last company that suspended operations was Egypt-Iran for Spinning and Weaving, of which the government owns 51 percent, adding that Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb had ordered the Trade and Industry Ministry restructure and develop it.

“There were 3,000 workers working there,” Ibrahim said, urging the government to find a solution for the LE30 million company’s debt that.

He also called for stopping the smuggling of readymade garments from the borders, raising tariffs for imported cotton and cultivating types of cotton suitable for the modern requirements of the Egyptian and foreign markets.
